Loudoun Mutual Anniversary Collateral Design

Loudoun Mutual Insurance Company recently celebrated their 175th anniversary. They asked us to design the various materials they would need: a history booklet and anniversary logo. We also designed invitations, postcards, brochure and signage for their open house celebration. Early on, it was decided that the design of the collateral should depict the company’s historic “enduring success”.

  • Their corporate logo includes an iconic image of a hand pumper – typical fire-fighting apparatus used in 1849, the year of the company’s founding. For anniversary materials, we brought in illustrator Jim Starr to create a drawing of firefighters with the pumper, using the style of historic drawings from that era.
  • Their branded red and black colors, printed on a textured cream paper stock, creates the dramatic look of historic documents. Using an old-fashioned script font, Zapfino, suggests 19th-century handwriting.
  • As always, consistency in design is pleasing to the eye and gives clarity to materials throughout; there’s no confusion as to who and what are being celebrated.
