Are You Using Your Logo Too Large?
So you have a new logo — congratulations! It’s fine to shoot it admiring glances, but don’t make the rookie mistake of thinking your logo is your most important branding element. What is? Your marketing message. Keep your logo small and let it speak for itself.
Correct logo sizing.
On a website or brochure, your logo should be relatively small. Users are already on your site or holding your brochure — don’t waste valuable space with a billboard-size logo. In fact, the largest companies use the smallest logos. Devote the most space to your marketing message.
How often should my logo appear?
It should appear in at least one place on all your collateral items: website, brochures, signage, presentations, email signatures. For a brochure, it’s enough to place the logo on the front and back covers only — using it relatively small in comparison with your images and text areas. Let other graphic elements come to the fore by using photos and illustrations to help deliver your marketing message.
When can I use my logo large?
The short answer is signage. Also, at times you may want to take a single element from your logo and enlarge it to use in an interesting way — as a background or to highlight text. That’s when you can go bigger!
